My History with Words… and Introducing my Path to Publication

August 2, 2018 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

Path to Publication

I feel like this is a bit of a coming out for me even though I’ve been writing nearly my entire life. At eight years old, I walked into my 3rd-grade classroom during recess and told my teacher Mrs. Engle that I’d rather stay inside and write. Instead of pushing me out the door, she asked me, “How about we start a writing group every Friday?” She was the first person, other than my parents, to … [Read more...]

5 Tips for Breaking Habits and Making New Ones

July 27, 2018 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

old habits

Habits are crazy things. Sometimes we create them without even meaning to, and when we go attempt to change them? It can be really, really hard to get out of our old ‘auto-pilot’ setting and into a new one. Take for example, our old dishwasher. Yes, I said dishwasher. In our apartment, the dishwasher’s top drawer only came out halfway. It was a pain in the arse, but we lived with it for five … [Read more...]

What Buying a First Home and Renovations Taught Me

July 16, 2018 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

First room home renovation

What a crazy past few months it’s been. We put an offer on a house in February. We closed in April… and we immediately dove into some renovations, namely updating the kitchen, painting the walls, and lastly but most trying, replacing pretty much all of the flooring. If I’m being honest, I’ve been a ball of anxiety ever since the kitchen was gutted. Some of the rehab work has gone smoothly. … [Read more...]

How to Bullet Journal Work-at-Home-Mom Style

June 26, 2018 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

Casual bullet journal style

Let me preface this post by saying this: when I saw beautiful bullet journal designs on Pinterest I thought, Cool idea, but I don’t think I’d EVER have the time to do that! Even so, the trend of bullet journaling kept catching my eye, and the whole concept totally intrigued me. I am a lover of to-do lists. I used to have notecards and post-it notes, and slips of paper EVERYWHERE with my lists … [Read more...]

More than Mom: How I Lost – and Found – Myself After Having Kids

June 19, 2018 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

They said kids change everything. You lose sleep over them. You cry over them. Your schedule revolves around them and their needs, and somehow through it all, your heart grows with so much love. In the process, your world changes SO much. What I didn’t know, and didn’t quite expect, is just how much becoming a parent and motherhood would also change me... and how it keeps changing me as they get … [Read more...]

Bear with me! I do plan to talk about my forthcomi Bear with me! I do plan to talk about my forthcoming YA historical fantasy, but putting something out into the world that’s only been “mine” so far? It’s hard! This is why I talk about mindset and writing so much — your mindset affects your writing… and apparently your publicity and marketing, too. #WritingLife #HistoricalFantasy #BookLife #Mindset

There are a LOT of things currently in the works, not just my forthcoming YA historical fantasy. Here are just some of the things I was up to in April:🌸 Wrapped up my in-person picture book writing workshop… and I’ve been getting requests for an online version, so stay tuned!🌸 Ghostwriting projects for my clients, including writing about financial literacy, brand development, and construction.🌸 Shared essays about topics like turning off your inner editor to why your writing process is a garden over on my Substack, Where Daisies Grow🌸 Held my Creative Writing Accountability Club every Thursday morning (it’s free! If you want in, let me know)🌸 Coached some of my clients so they could finish their writing projects. 🌸 Dove headfirst into developmental edits of my New Adult Contemporary. I know, I know, I said I’d let this marinate a bit, but this story doesn’t want to wait.🌸Reached out to some fellow authors about blurbing my Young Adult Historical Fantasy (a round of edits is happening in May!)🌸 Scheduled a May writing workshop about building a sustainable writing routine that works for your busy life. Hit me up if you want the details.🌸Launched my first printed guided journal full of coloring pages, motivation, and writing prompts for moms who want to cultivate a writing practice. Head on over to my bio for a link. What do you want to hear more about? Lots of messy creativity is happening around here, and I love sharing peeks into my process over on Substack and Instagram.#MomLife #WritingJourney #AuthorsOfInsta

Ohhh my goodness, my editor totally made my MONTH Ohhh my goodness, my editor totally made my MONTH when she shared why she wants to publish my Young Adult Historical Fantasy about Charlotte Corday. Pinch me! “I was immediately pulled into the magic and fantasy elements of the story. I really loved how you connected real history to the plot without it ever feeling like I was reading something overly educational or dense. I’m honestly not much of a history person, but your writing made me curious enough to want to look into some of the historical elements more after I finished reading. I also grew up loving fantasy and magic-focused stories like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson & the Olympians, so that part really resonated with me.”#AuthorsOfInstagram #HistoricalFantasy #WritingCommunity #TimeTravel @apprenticehousepress
