Join Me on My Personal Writing Journey

August 25, 2026 by Liz SanFilippo Hall Leave a Comment

We all have our own writing paths, some more circuitous than others. I know mine has been all over the place (just see part of my “path” here and here).

But since I decided that I am going to be a career author and I’m fully committed to this “identity,” I decided I needed to be a bit more… visible online. After all, how will anyone know about my books unless I talk about them?

I’ve also been told, time and time again, that people want to hear more about the writing and publishing process. Sometimes I forget that while people might enjoy books, they might not know about all the different stages of the process (including all the times I’ve questioned myself along the way)…. and sometimes I take all that I’ve learned over the years for granted.

Even though my debut novel isn’t slated for release until April 27, 2027, I self-published my picture book, Etta Betta and the Beast, and I’ve been working with authors on their books ever since 2006 in a variety of capacities, including as a beta reader, alpha reader, developmental editor, line editor, and proofreader. (Don’t worry; if you’re not familiar with all those different terms, I’ll share more about them in a separate post). But, yeah, there’s a lot that goes into publishing a book, and I’m ready to talk about all the ins and outs. Hopefully it’ll demystify the whole process, while also giving some sneak peeks into the books I have in the works. Because, spoiler alert, Becoming Charlotte Corday, is just the beginning.

So how can you join me on my writing journey?

For starters, every week, I’ll share a short video about my current creative writing projects. The videos will always be posted on Instagram (with the hashtag #LizsWritingJourney) and YouTube, at minimum.

For your convenience, here’s the first one:

Second, I love being part of a community of creative people who enjoy chatting about writing and creativity. I also want to provide a platform for other writers who identify as women to connect, collaborate, write, and publish… that’s why I’m starting Open Window Lit. Whether you’re totally new to writing or you’ve been playing with words for years, I’d love for you to join us! You can join the waiting list here and be the first to know when we launch.

In the meantime, have a question about journaling, the craft of writing, the publishing process, and really, anything along those lines? Drop a comment below, and it may just become a future video or post!

Multi-genre author. 📚BECOMING CHARLOTTE CORDAY, a YA historical fantasy coming 4/27/2027 from Apprentice House Press

I’ve always wanted to be like Dolly… fearless, bra I’ve always wanted to be like Dolly… fearless, brave, strong, unafraid of speaking out, an advocate for so many things. Never stop chasing your dreams. Be unapologetically you. We’ll miss you, Dolly.
What creative writing projects am I working on? We What creative writing projects am I working on? Well, let me tell you! But let me also preface this by saying, I’m recapping just about every single writing project I’ll be working on in September… because there is no way I’m doing all this in one week 🤣AND, I’m looking for readers! What’s an ARC reader? Advanced reader copies for Becoming Charlotte Corday should be available in December. The book will be 100% done by then, and as an ARC reader, I ask that you help me spread the word about my book and leave reviews to help people find out about the historical fantasy. What’s a beta reader? Beta reading happens when a book has a solid draft, but I need readers (who don’t work in publishing) to give me their opinions on the plots, characters, and overall reading experience. This book is New Adult contemporary set in 2005 about a girl who feels like all her friends are leaving her behind after college graduation… until she runs into her old high school crush, charming Luke. But he’s just another mistake in a string of mistakes. Interested in either? Let me know! And stay tuned for weekly writing updates by following #LizsWritingJourney 💖#ARCsComingSoon #WritingLife #WritingGoals
Since there are over 1,000 of you following me now Since there are over 1,000 of you following me now (heyyyy!), l thought now would be a good time to reintroduce myself! Even though I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, it wasn’t until February 2025 where I made a decision… I was going to start publishing my books, no matter what it took. Nearly a year to the day, I signed my first novel contract. I spend my days working with my freelance and coaching clients, and fitting in time for my creative writing whenever I can. I love helping people tell their stories… and I’m getting used to telling mine. If you like chatting books, music, travel, food, history, and the list goes on, welcome. I look forward to getting to know you all too 💖#MeetTheAuthor #AuthorAugust2026 #AmWriting

My art from this summer… some of it will end up in My art from this summer… some of it will end up in guided journals, some won’t. Some might be turned into something else, some will just get tossed. How’d I have time for all this? Honestly, I just drew a bit before bed most nights while watching TV or movies. It’s my kind of “meditation.” What should I draw next? #Journaling #SummerLiving #AuthorsOfInsta #Artsy
Fun fact about one of my main characters in Becomi Fun fact about one of my main characters in Becoming Charlotte Corday… Lonely in Caen, France (kind of like her distant relative Anne-Marie in Paris of 2005), Charlotte often passed the time penning letters to loved ones. This “hobby” didn’t end after she was jailed. #authoraugust26 #FrenchRevolution #WomenInHistory #HistoricalFantasy

Well, actually I’m on a “break,” headed into the city, and may or may not be eavesdropping on some interesting convos around me while I journal. But seriously, since I wrapped up edits on Becoming Charlotte Corday, I decided to take some time off from novel writing (TBD on how long) while I just tinker with some random thoughts and ideas. I call this refilling my creative well. What about you? What creative project are you working on? I want to hear about it! #Journaling #SummerLiving #ChicagoHereICome
