I’m still pinching myself. It still doesn’t feel real. But, if I’m being honest with you all, I don’t think it’ll feel real until I’m actually holding the book in my hands… my young adult historical fantasy, Becoming Charlotte Corday, is being published by Apprentice House Press in the spring of 2027! I officially signed the book contract this past March.
The journey to this contract has been a long one, which I talk about on my Substack, Where Daisies Grow. It was marked by self doubt but also curiosity and an insatiable drive to write and tell Charlotte’s story.
And it all started with a question: who the heck is Charlotte Corday? Feel free to Google her, but most of what you’ll find is related to her famous act, killing politician and journalist, Jean-Paul Marat. Most of what is known about her is relegated to just the weeks leading up to the assassination. I wrote this book, because I wanted to know: who was she? Where did she grow up? Why did she think killing Marat would change the revolution? Why did she think killing Marat was her destiny?
The story grew from there, and it became one about legacy, the stories we tell our families—and the secrets we try to bury, the things we inherit and the things we rebel against.
While the book is still being edited and reviewed by beta readers, I’ll be sharing all about the ins and outs of my writing and research process over on Substack. I’ll also be sharing some sneak peeks and cover reveals… but only if you join my new author newsletter.
Sign up here to be the first to know.
As a thank you for joining my new newsletter, you’ll get the opening pages of the book as a teaser.
In the meantime, I want to know: what questions do you have for me? Whether it’s about my research into the French Revolution, Charlotte’s life, or taking an idea into a full-fledged novel, complete with alternating time lines and time travel, ask away.
