12 Self Care Ideas for Moms Stuck at Home

March 17, 2020 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

The day our schools announced they were closing for an indefinite period of time, I went into preparation mode. I don’t mean stocking up on toilet paper or grocery shopping. I had already done that (the grocery shopping part, not the stocking up on TP). No, I thought: how am I going to keep these kids entertained and somehow maintain my sanity? I sat down with my oldest, Little Miss, and … [Read more...]

How ‘The Read-Aloud Handbook’ Changed The Way We Read to Our Kids

February 19, 2019 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

I’ve always been a big reader. I grew up going to the library and bringing piles of books home with me. On vacations, I’d bring more books than there were days of the week; in the pre-Kindle and tablet days, I was worried I’d run out of things to read! So, when I had kids, I knew books would be a big part of their lives. Affiliate links included. From the moment they’ve been born, … [Read more...]

More than Mom: How I Lost – and Found – Myself After Having Kids

June 19, 2018 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

They said kids change everything. You lose sleep over them. You cry over them. Your schedule revolves around them and their needs, and somehow through it all, your heart grows with so much love. In the process, your world changes SO much. What I didn’t know, and didn’t quite expect, is just how much becoming a parent and motherhood would also change me... and how it keeps changing me as they get … [Read more...]

I’m More than Mom: Finding Ourselves After Baby

November 21, 2017 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

Before having my first child, I knew life as we knew it was totally going to change. But as much as I read all the pregnancy and parenting books, and joined a bunch of online mommy groups and read all sorts of advice… There was one thing I don’t think anyone could have prepared me for. I didn’t realize how all the diaper changes, middle-of-the-night wakeups, nursing and feedings, laundry (it’s … [Read more...]

Mother's Day Gift Ideas

I don’t know about you, but I often find it hard to ask for things that I “want.” So when people like my hubby and mom ask what I’d like for my birthday, or for Mother’s Day, I often gravitate toward the things I need. (Honestly, let’s be real, sometimes I just *need* a nap or a clean house). While a clean home is very much welcome as a gift, I think it’s also important to pamper and shower our … [Read more...]

When I was a young mom, my dreams of writing felt When I was a young mom, my dreams of writing felt so out of reach. I was being pulled in a million different directions, and I never thought I’d make the progress I needed to. But then I realized that I just needed to reassess my process (and give myself some grace). Gone were the days of immersing myself in my imagination for hours on end… but 5-10 minute writing sessions? That I could do. This guided journal was born out of that process. Grab this 28-day guided journal through the link in my bio 🥰#MomLife #WritingProcess #WritingDreams #GuidedJournal

I actually started in on this book last fall, so I’m about halfway into my “draft zero” already… 40,000ish words that includes a handful of chapters and a whole lot of outlining and world building. I’m having fun figuring out how this story pans out, and that’s basically all I can say without spoiling anything 😜#AmEditing #AmWriting #MomLife #DraftZero

Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy is entertaining and insightful, and his approach to creativity feels like my own (did I really just write that?! I’m not, I swear, comparing myself to his incredible songwriting abilities). But his words struck a chord with me (pun intended): “Take the time to play with your words. Allow yourself the joy of getting to know them without being precious about directing everything they are trying to say.”But he goes beyond inspiration and encouragement too, and offers some super fun writing exercises… l you’ll just have to read to find them out. 🥳Now please excuse me while I go check out his other book. #AmWriting #BookRec #Creativity #Wilco
