20 Things Moms Say to Themselves to Get Through The Day

January 25, 2016 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

20 Things Mom Say to Themselves

A couple weekends ago, before heading out of town, I needed to get Kafka the bulldog over to his DogVacay sitter who lived a good four miles away. This didn’t used to be a big deal. I’d throw his travel kennel, food, and toys into the car, load the dog up, and go. Not anymore. With Little Miss in the equation, combined with city living -- aka, my car is parked out on the street -- things are a … [Read more...]

How do you recharge?

December 17, 2015 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been, I’m not quite sure where the time went! When I started this blog I had a plan: I’d blog at least once or twice a week. Not all posts would be long, but I had a HUGE list of topics so I figured: easy peasy, right? Wrong! Life has been insanely hectic lately. October through December is the busy season for my makeup business, as people are throwing … [Read more...]

How My Toddler Daughter Teaches Me to Just Be Myself

October 9, 2015 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

Toddlers are interesting folks. They still have quite a bit to learn about the world -- like how the world, contrary to their beliefs, doesn't always revolve around them and what they want right NOW. But they also haven't learned to be anything but themselves. I'm not the most outgoing of people. It takes me time to warm up to people, and I've been that way since I was a kid, a … [Read more...]

Why I Don’t Share My Kid’s Name on Public Posts

September 4, 2015 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

Long before I started this Oops and Daisies blog -- heck, long before I had my daughter -- I decided I’d keep my kid's name off public sites, like this one. It’s my attempt at privacy in this online world where we share so much of our lives. Will her name be posted by a well-meaning family member or friend at some point, like in the comments of a public Facebook photo? Maybe, but there’s only … [Read more...]

A Tribute to my Grandma SanFilippo

August 1, 2015 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

Grandma SanFilippo

I never intended for this to be my first post on my new blog. But my Grandma SanFilippo has been on my mind more than anything these last few days, ever since I heard news of her death -- at age 91 -- this past Tuesday night. This blog is largely about the things that inspire not only me, but the people around me... and my Grandma? She inspired a lot of people. She taught me, our huge amazing … [Read more...]

Multi-genre author. 📚BECOMING CHARLOTTE CORDAY, a YA historical fantasy coming spring 2027 from Apprentice House Press

Ohhh my goodness, my editor totally made my MONTH Ohhh my goodness, my editor totally made my MONTH when she shared why she wants to publish my Young Adult Historical Fantasy about Charlotte Corday. Pinch me! “I was immediately pulled into the magic and fantasy elements of the story. I really loved how you connected real history to the plot without it ever feeling like I was reading something overly educational or dense. I’m honestly not much of a history person, but your writing made me curious enough to want to look into some of the historical elements more after I finished reading. I also grew up loving fantasy and magic-focused stories like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson & the Olympians, so that part really resonated with me.”#AuthorsOfInstagram #HistoricalFantasy #WritingCommunity #TimeTravel @apprenticehousepress

Someone told me they thought journaling was a wast Someone told me they thought journaling was a waste of time… that they weren’t into “navel gazing.” That it didn’t seem “productive.”But, take it from me, someone who has kept a journal for more than 3 decades. Journaling doesn’t necessarily mean keeping a diary… and I’m sorry, but who decided EVERYTHING needs to be productive all the time?!There can be a lot of beauty in slowing down.I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for a slower pace of life. A kinder life. A more gentle life.Journaling is a safe space, one that we can reflect, think, and grow. For me, it’s also become a place not for story endings, but beginnings. What story do you dream of telling? Do you use a journal to start working on your story? Or what does your creative process look like?#Journaling #AmWriting #MomLife #TheStoriesWeTellOurselves

When I learned that “Shift” was being marketed When I learned that “Shift” was being marketed to fans of Hunger Games, I knew I had to read it. While the book’s structure was different than what I’m used to from YA books (with some exposition up front), the concept and storytelling had me hooked:Shapeshifters stereotyped as criminalsPolitical intrigue and shady government dealingsThe main character Sybil trying to figure out who she is in a world that just didn’t seem to accept her “kind”Challenging family dynamics… especially with her brother ArtNot knowing who to trust or believeBonus: Lee’s world-building was super impressive, blending real-world elements like the beautiful Appalachian Mountains and DC with a land divided over magic and what should be done about the Shifters.I look forward to reading the sequel! Thanks for sharing an advanced copy with me @jpleeauthor! #BookReview #YAReads #AdvanceReview #FantasyBook
