Change is Rarely Easy, but it is a Constant

February 4, 2017 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

The consistency of change

The first night at home with my little man (yes, baby #2 has arrived!), he woke in the middle of the night, and suddenly acted very alert while I changed his diaper. He stopped crying and looked around in wonder as if to ask, “Where the heck am I now?!” I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to process so much change at once. Suddenly he’s in this world of all sorts of people (many … [Read more...]

Waiting on Baby and Transitioning to Working at Home Full Time

January 20, 2017 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

Waiting on baby

Baby boy’s due date was January 16. He’s officially late… so much for my instinct of thinking he’d be early! But, from what I’ve read, this is pretty normal. About 50% of all babies are born AFTER their due date. Little Miss was a late one too; I developed pre-eclampsia late in my pregnancy, and my blood pressure skyrocketed when I hit 41 weeks. I was induced, and she appeared rather … [Read more...]

A Letter to my Daughter Before She Becomes a Big Sister

January 10, 2017 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

letter to my daughter

Dear Little Miss,Today at lunch, in between slurps of soup, you looked at me and said, “what you doing, mama?” I was looking at you, probably more intently than usual, and thinking about how much has changed in nearly the past three years (ever since you’ve been born)… and how things are about to change so much again. Your baby brother is due any day now, and we’re all on pins and needles … [Read more...]

Lessons from Little Miss: Spreading Sparkles

January 4, 2017 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

Lessons from my daughter about spreading sparkles

Little Miss and I were at gymnastics a few weeks back when she put her tiny little toddler hand into her pocket, pretended to grab something, and then lifted her hand high into the air. “Sparkles!” she shouted! Yes, at first, I was a tad confused… but thankful there was no ‘real’ glitter in there. The gymnastics teacher loved it and asked for some sparkles, too. Little Miss obliged, digging … [Read more...]

What Fills Your Cup? The Importance of Self-Care

September 28, 2016 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

My daughter is obsessed with water, and taking one cup to fill another. I’m sure it’s a toddler thing. But the other night during bath time, she was pouring the water back and forth, and she suddenly looked in the empty cup, and exclaimed, “Where did it all go?!?” Maybe it was my tired pregnant mama brain, but it made me think about that saying, about cups being half full or half empty. I … [Read more...]

What will my creativity process be like this summe What will my creativity process be like this summer? How much writing will I get done? I have no idea! In my latest Substack, I share how I’m trying to embrace @marieforleo’s mantra of how everything is “figureoutable.” For the full post, hop on over to my Substack!#SummerLiving #MomLife #WritingLife

When I was a young mom, my dreams of writing felt When I was a young mom, my dreams of writing felt so out of reach. I was being pulled in a million different directions, and I never thought I’d make the progress I needed to. But then I realized that I just needed to reassess my process (and give myself some grace). Gone were the days of immersing myself in my imagination for hours on end… but 5-10 minute writing sessions? That I could do. This guided journal was born out of that process. Grab this 28-day guided journal through the link in my bio 🥰#MomLife #WritingProcess #WritingDreams #GuidedJournal

Book two in my Charlotte Corday series is underway Book two in my Charlotte Corday series is underway! I actually started in on this book last fall, so I’m about halfway into my “draft zero” already… 40,000ish words that includes a handful of chapters and a whole lot of outlining and world building. I’m having fun figuring out how this story pans out, and that’s basically all I can say without spoiling anything 😜#AmEditing #AmWriting #MomLife #DraftZero

Even if you have zero intention to write or sing a Even if you have zero intention to write or sing a song, but you love writing, you need to check out this book. Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy is entertaining and insightful, and his approach to creativity feels like my own (did I really just write that?! I’m not, I swear, comparing myself to his incredible songwriting abilities). But his words struck a chord with me (pun intended): “Take the time to play with your words. Allow yourself the joy of getting to know them without being precious about directing everything they are trying to say.”But he goes beyond inspiration and encouragement too, and offers some super fun writing exercises… l you’ll just have to read to find them out. 🥳Now please excuse me while I go check out his other book. #AmWriting #BookRec #Creativity #Wilco
