Network Marketing was a Mistake… But I Don’t Regret It (Completely)

November 7, 2025 by Liz SanFilippo Hall Leave a Comment

I used to sell makeup through network marketing.  Oof, that felt a bit hard to admit! The industry as a whole is controversial, and I get that. To some, it seems scammy and annoying. To others, it feels empowering and a great way to earn financial freedom on your own terms.  It was that second part that got me. When my first was born, money was tight. I had gone from working full-time to … [Read more...]

Helping someone with a story they’ve poured thei Helping someone with a story they’ve poured their heart into also makes my heart happy! Thank you, Molly, for trusting me with your story. <3 “You’re really good at giving constructive feedback! You did such a nice balance of finding the issues/trouble spots but also offering positive notes as well. It’s so nice to see when things are working as well as what things are not. I had one beta reader who gave me some good feedback, but provided it in such a harsh manner that it was hard to digest at times. I never felt like that with your comments. Whenever I found notes about things you were questioning or suggestions, it never felt like it was coming from a mean or a negative space. I feel very lucky to have found you!”#Testimonial #CreativeWriting #WritingCommunity #Collaboration
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” I “What do you want to be when you grow up?”I always had an answer to this, and to be honest, it’s pretty much the same now. (But instead of saying, “I want to be an author,” I say, “I’m an author.”)My fifth-grade teacher barely reacted. I don’t know what she said exactly to me after that but I do remember her disbelief. I remember her asking me what ELSE I wanted to do, because being “just” an author wouldn’t cut it.TBH, I’m probably making it sound a lot more harsh than what she actually said… but it wasn’t the words that stuck with me; rather, it was how she made me feel: I wasn’t good enough and never would be. It hurt. It stung. And looking back, I realize that it affected me more than I knew at the time.Who was your first naysayer and how did you handle them?#WritingLife #MomLife #LizsWritingJourney #Education #WritingCommunity #Creativity #ChildhoodDream #CreativeWriting

Who else feels like they have a million tabs open? Who else feels like they have a million tabs open? (This is just a small snapshot of how many tabs I have open on any given day). But I’ve accepted it’s just the way I work.At the end of the week, I go through them all, see what I accomplished, see what I need to work on, and then I plot my following week.Keeping all these tabs open doesn’t work for everyone (my kids, for one, don’t get it!) but it works for me.It works for me, in part, because I also time block my work days on my Google calendar, creating a structure that works for me.When I click into any of the slots, I put what specific tasks I have for that given time. I also leave a few slots open for the unexpected phone call or a task that I’m “in flow” with and just need to keep working on. For me, it’s a perfect balance of flexiblilty and structure. So, let’s hear it. Do you work with a million tabs open? Or does the thought make you cringe? Be honest!#WAHM #WorkLife #ItsCalledBalance #MomLife #Schedule #Computer #AmWriting #AmReading #AmPlotting
In the Midwest, fall is finally here! It’s one o In the Midwest, fall is finally here! It’s one of my favorite times of the year — a time of letting go of what doesn’t serve us and reclaiming what does. For me, creative writing and journaling fuel me up in more ways than one, and while some of the ‘work’ seeds that I’ve been planting are still germinating, if you will, some of them are already sprouting. Here are just some of the things I accomplished work-wise in October:* Ghost wrote pieces about a specialty food snack business* Sent a bunch of queries for my YA historical fantasy about Charlotte Corday and a secret society dedicated to ensuring people fulfill their destinies — and I received another request for more pages!! 🙂 🎉 * Pitched and pitched and pitched more essays / articles to a wide variety of publications* Chatted about the writing process and set some new goals with my YA/NA writing group* Took part in a business bootcamp that helped me (among other things) reinvigorate my blog, www.OopsAndDaisies.com, launching a new About page, services page, and more… I’d love to hear what you think!* Published three blog posts on Oops & Daisies* Relaunched my newsletter, sharing how I’m pivoting my blog to focus on how to carve out time for creative pursuits* Dove into creative writing projects, adding about 6K words to my latest YA fantasy manuscript and storyboarding a YA contemporary to prep for development editing* Volunteered at my son’s school library; gosh these kids love their Dog Man and Captain Underpants!* Served on the launch team for @jennigritters and her new book, The Sustainable Solopreneur - if you need support in rethinking your approach to building a business that works for you and your life, I encourage you to check it out!* Started testing my first digital product, a creative spark workbook geared toward moms, with a small beta group.… and I feel like I’m off running in November already.#CreativeWriting #WritingJourney #ContentDevelopment #Recap #Writing #Blog #WritingProcess #MomLife #WAHM #CreativeLife #LifeWithKids

They’re a bit longer than I expected but yes… challenge accepted. 🤣Thank goodness it’s fall, which to me is cozy season full of tea and weekends of reading.
