How I Use My Bullet Journal Every Month

July 31, 2026 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

I don’t remember when I started bullet journaling, but it was sometime after I had kids. My brain felt too chaotic, and I needed something more “personal” than a regular old planner. Now, it’s a regular part of my daily (and monthly) routine.  But it isn’t Pinterest worthy (I write, even as I plan to share this on Pinterest).  And it’s even simpler than it was when I wrote this post about … [Read more...]

Stop the Mean Girl Voice in Our Heads: How to Do Affirmations

I may share a lot on social media, but I’ll be honest... there’s a big part of me I don’t share. But after talking to some close friends and family, I know I'm far from the only one who struggles with this. In fact, I'm pretty sure we all do on some level. I'm talking about the “mean girl” voice in my head. The one who comes out the most when I’m tired or stressed or anxious or … [Read more...]

focus on what you can do

I dreaded telling little miss that we had to cancel her birthday plans, including her party. A week ago, we sat together on her bed as I reminded her about why we were staying home, and I broke the news that we had delay her party. She teared up, briefly upset, but then she looked at me and asked, "I still get a birthday, right?" "Of course!" I told her. "You get to spend the day of your real … [Read more...]

Why I Choose a Word of the Year Over New Year’s Resolutions

January 10, 2019 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

I don’t do New Year's resolutions, or at least I haven’t in a few years. But chances are you’ve already seen people on social media sharing what their “word of the year” is and why they’ve chosen that word. To me, WOTY is like a resolution, but oh so much better. Everyone has their reasons for this, but for me in particular a “word of the year” is a touchstone of sorts. It’s looking at … [Read more...]

5 Tips for Breaking Habits and Making New Ones

July 27, 2018 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

old habits

Habits are crazy things. Sometimes we create them without even meaning to, and when we go attempt to change them? It can be really, really hard to get out of our old ‘auto-pilot’ setting and into a new one. Take for example, our old dishwasher. Yes, I said dishwasher. In our apartment, the dishwasher’s top drawer only came out halfway. It was a pain in the arse, but we lived with it for five … [Read more...]
