What I’m Reading: Add These to Your TBR List!

September 3, 2019 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

Recommended Reads

I’m a voracious reader. At any given time lately I’m reading at least three different books. What I pick up depends on my mood, but I’m often rotating between middle grade/young adult fiction, historical fiction, as well as something nonfiction -- but I’ll pick up anything that friends recommend or that catches my eye as well. Sometimes a personal development book is also thrown into the … [Read more...]

How ‘The Read-Aloud Handbook’ Changed The Way We Read to Our Kids

February 19, 2019 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

I’ve always been a big reader. I grew up going to the library and bringing piles of books home with me. On vacations, I’d bring more books than there were days of the week; in the pre-Kindle and tablet days, I was worried I’d run out of things to read! So, when I had kids, I knew books would be a big part of their lives. Affiliate links included. From the moment they’ve been born, … [Read more...]

The Courage to be Vulnerable: Book Review of ‘Daring Greatly’ by Brene Brown

August 8, 2018 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

Daring Greatly by Brene Brown

I’m going to get vulnerable here… and this is new for me. I feel like I’ve always been concerned with how other people perceived me. I always worried that I was too awkward and too weird. Or maybe too quiet. Or that I never knew what to say. In turn, I never felt “good enough.” It’s something I’ve been working on for awhile, basically ever since I’ve had kids, because I saw (and see on a daily … [Read more...]

Finding Beauty Everywhere: Book Review of ‘A Different Beautiful’

August 1, 2016 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

I first learned about Brenna shortly after she was born. News came from my sister-in-law, a best friend to Brenna’s mom, Courtney Westlake, that the little girl -- born just before Christmas -- was fighting for her life due to a rare skin condition. This sweet fighter named Brenna not only survived but eventually thrived. I first followed her story through Courtney’s blog and was always amazed … [Read more...]

The Importance of Positive Energy: Review of ‘The Energy Bus’ by Jon Gordon

April 18, 2016 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

The Energy Bus book review

I’ve been called an ‘optimist’ plenty of times in my life. It’s often a compliment but not always. People have rolled their eyes at me and wondered out loud how I could have possibly turned something negative into a positive. But here’s the thing: not everything rolls off my shoulders. Sometimes it takes me a while to shake something off and see the good in what’s happened. But, more and more, … [Read more...]

The support and congrats I’ve received over the The support and congrats I’ve received over the last few days about my book contract has been incredible… but you know what I’ve enjoyed even more? The messages I’ve received from people telling me about their own dreams of writing and publishing. These dreams are BEAUTIFUL.And it makes me wonder… why do we hide our creative dreams away? Is it a form of protection? Is it because we don’t take ourselves seriously? Is it because we fear we might fail? Or is it simply because we fear what people might think? (I ask because I’ve felt all of this at some point in time). Today, I challenge you: speak your dreams out loud… even if you don’t want to share on social media (which I 100% understand), say them out loud to yourself.Write them down.Close your eyes, and picture it.Giving yourself permission to dream big is nearly always the first step. And if you ever want to talk about writing and creativity? No day is ever the same for @erinkuhnkrueger, and No day is ever the same for @erinkuhnkrueger, and the same can be said of her “creative time.” But rather than lament it, she’s embraced it, because she enjoys the process… whether she’s writing in dribs and drabs between calls and time with her kids, or in the sweet quiet of the night when everyone else is asleep.“When I’m writing, I’m a different person,” Erin told me on my latest #CreativityChat.Writing has always been important to Erin, but it wasn’t until after launching her blog and her work in writing took off that she fully owned herself as a writer.Erin and I chatted about why it can be hard to claim your creativity and writing… after all, our stories are important. Our stories are valuable. They help us connect and relate to other people, but owning that fact can be hard. That said, Erin doesn’t shy away from honesty and vulnerability in her writing. And I’d dare to say that her mantra when it comes to writing boils down to something she told me about herself and why she writes, “If I can help one person, I’m doing good.”Thanks, Erin, for holding space for your creativity and taking the time to think deeply about what works for you and what doesn’t.*** My chat with Erin was #CreativityChat number three, and I’m on a mission to have 100 Creativity Chats this year. I truly believe we all have stories to share, and I love discovering the different ways people fit creativity into their busy days — whether it’s at work or as a hobby (because no matter how we fit it into our lives, it all matters). I want to talk to people from all walks of life about what creativity means to them.Want to share more about how you fit creativity into your life? Let’s chat!#CreativeLife
