5 Gift Ideas to Encourage Creativity in Kids

One corner of our house is bursting with art supplies, the drawers full of colored pencils, markers, beads, pipe cleaners, construction paper, and oh so many odds and ends. The kids use all of our random art supplies when they just want to explore and experiment. That alone can be an incredible way to encourage creativity in kids.  But sometimes kids just want a project to play with, or to test … [Read more...]

📚👧 👦 Lifestyle Blogger & Essayist
Just an imperfect mom trying to inspire and support women who want to write and create 👇

Did you know that my blog is a small business? 🙂I’ve spent the last few months updating the site, and while I have (a lot) more in the works, I thought today would be a good day to share a bit about Oops & Daisies. When I first started the blog in 2015, I intended it to be a place to share my writing and talk about juggling the competing priorities that arise when we become parents. I vowed to share about living life “zoomed out”--to talk about the joys but also the hard stuff related to parenting, too. While the basic principle behind the blog still holds, I’ve become a bit more intentional in my content… and pivoted to talking about the intersection between parenting, work, and creativity, with a big focus, no surprise here, on writing. So, how can you support Oops & Daisies this #SmallBusinessSaturday? (All links available through my bio).1. Go check out the blog and leave a comment or two. 2. Share your favorite posts with someone you think might be interested.3. Buy my picture book, Etta Betta and the Beast, a silly tale about a girl who thinks her parents brought home a beast for a pet. (Spoiler alert: he’s really a bulldog). 4. Check out my affiliate links and shop (currently through Amazon and Bookshop) at no extra cost to you; more coming soon! 5. Grab my digital download, a 28-Day Creative Spark Workbook, designed for busy moms who want to carve out time and space to write. (If you have any issues checking out, please let me know! This is BRAND NEW). 6. Send me a message with any questions you have about writing and/or creativity and/or self-care… and just know that it might influence a future blog post! 7. Interested in writing but want support? Book a complimentary Creative Spark Strategy Session with me to discuss how we can potentially work together. 8. Follow me on socials. 9. And last but not least, subscribe to my email newsletter to be the first to know when I have a new book or product to launch! Thank you for your support! ❤️#MomLife #WritingCommunity #CreativityEveryDay
I’m not going to sugarcoat it. 2025 has been a t I’m not going to sugarcoat it. 2025 has been a tough year for our family in more ways than one—to the point that when the phone rings, I have to stop myself from thinking it’s some sort of bad news. I know. You probably couldn’t tell from my social media feeds that this was the case. I try to focus on the positive, on the good things, on the bright side. And I don’t just do this on social media; it’s part of my personality… I NEED to find the good and focus on it, because if I don’t, I know what a dark spiral that can be. I might not be religious in the traditional sense, but I do believe where there is darkness, there can also be light. No matter how rough a day can be, I try to find the bright spot. Sometimes it’s my kids’ laughter. Other times, it’s losing myself in a good book. Other times, it’s as simple as enjoying a comfort food dish. Today, like every day, I am grateful. For my family. For my friends. For art, and nature, and the beauty around us each and every day. For realizing that I am just one small part of this big, bold, amazing universe. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. In the hubbub of today, take a breath. Relax. Do something that you love. I hope you’re surrounded today by people you love and care about. I know I am. #MomLife #Reflections #LifeIsAJourney #Thanksgiving

I’ve been writing a new essay this week. It’s I’ve been writing a new essay this week. It’s about a “wall”—one that I “built” over the years to “protect” myself. But, inevitably, it blocked me and boxed me in. I still don’t know how the essay is going to end. But maybe that’s the point? When it comes to things like identity and who we are… we are always changing and growing. But if we don’t pay attention to those internal walls of our own making, it’s going to be really hard to move forward.#WriterLife #CreativeNonfiction #MomWriter #DeepThoughts
I’ve been coming up to northern Michigan for vac I’ve been coming up to northern Michigan for vacation for as long as I can remember. My family rented homes up here for decades until my parents realized their dream of owning a house up here just about 20 years ago. It’s different than it used to be—less of a vacation and more of a family trip (having kids will make that happen). We also get more time up here in the off-season, rather than summer. But I still wouldn’t change a thing. Today, my sister and I helped my dad clear the driveway and entryway of leaves (after the boys jumped in massive leaf piles). But we also walked along the beach—yep, even in 40 degree weather. We also went to the bird sanctuary down the street, discovered stairs that went to nowhere, climbed fallen trees, talked about possible stories that could be set in a very quiet bird sanctuary in the fall, visited the largest sequoia tree outside of California, and laughed and laughed and laughed. Yep, Michigan is different. But it’s still one of my favorite places to be, even in the off season.#WritingLife #Creativity #Grateful #MomLife

When I originally launched Oops & Daisies in 2015, When I originally launched Oops & Daisies in 2015, I wanted to create a space for other moms like me to know they weren’t alone—that it was okay to take time for things like self care and creativity. As I’ve evolved over the years, so too has my mission: I want to support more women who feel ‘constricted.’ Oops & Daisies is growing and offering more support, tools, and resources to help women embrace their creativity, whether their creations are for profit or as a form of self care… and that’s why I applied to the #GustoImpactAwards. Winning this grant, which includes $40K in marketing, would make such a huge impact on so many women and their desire to embrace their creative self-expression. So as my kids say, let’s gooooo. @gustohq #GustoImpactAwards #SmallBusiness #Creativity #SelfExpression #MomLife #LifeWithKids #Community #Writing #Journaling
