Work From Home Parents Share Tips On Juggling Work with Young Kids at Home

April 8, 2020 by lizsfhall@gmail.com

work from home

Let's be honest. In both office and work from home settings, there are distractions. But the distractions are different. Instead of a coworker popping into your cubicle to catch up, now you have a young kid tugging at your shirt asking for a snack for the millionth time since they woke up. Or saying they're bored and want something to do. Working from home with kids? It can be hard, especially … [Read more...]

Little Miss’s Birthday Reminded Me to Focus on What We Can Do Instead of What We Can’t

April 4, 2020 by lizsfhall@gmail.com

focus on what you can do

I dreaded telling little miss that we had to cancel her birthday plans, including her party. A week ago, we sat together on her bed as I reminded her about why we were staying home, and I broke the news that we had delay her party. She teared up, briefly upset, but then she looked at me and asked, "I still get a birthday, right?" "Of course!" I told her. "You get to spend the day of your real … [Read more...]

6 Awesome Craft Kits Kids Love From Oriental Trading

March 31, 2020 by lizsfhall@gmail.com

Oriental Trading

We have a wee bit of an obsession with art and crafts in our house. As in, my kids are constantly creating. While they often do things from "scratch," I also like to have a handful of craft kits on hand that make it easy to keep them entertained and occupied for at least a half hour. (Affiliate links included). This is, honestly, one of the reasons I'm obsessed with Oriental Trading. We always … [Read more...]

Homeschooling Parents Share Tips for Learning at Home

March 26, 2020 by lizsfhall@gmail.com

Homeschooling parents

First, take a breath. Then, repeat after me: Your job is not to homeschool. Homeschooling, after all, is a decision that parents make. What is happening right now is not a choice we made. Many of us were thrown into this situation in an effort of social distancing. Schools were called off, many for “indefinite” periods of time. Teachers scrambled to get some eLearning put together. Parents were … [Read more...]

12 Self Care Ideas for Moms Stuck at Home

March 17, 2020 by lizsfhall@gmail.com

The day our schools announced they were closing for an indefinite period of time, I went into preparation mode. I don’t mean stocking up on toilet paper or grocery shopping. I had already done that (the grocery shopping part, not the stocking up on TP). No, I thought: how am I going to keep these kids entertained and somehow maintain my sanity? I sat down with my oldest, Little Miss, and … [Read more...]

How have your other interests informed your own wr How have your other interests informed your own writing and creative pursuits? One of the reasons I think I’ve always loved writing is that it allows me to immerse myself in other worlds and characters. As a kid, I also loved to perform… despite the fact that I’m an introvert most days. After performing with a local theater company for a few years, I decided I wanted to try my hand at putting on my own theatrical productions. Some of my more “notable” attempts:1. In 5th grade, my friends and I got together and decided to stage a League of their Own, enlisting my younger sister and her friends as the background players (aka the rest of the team other than Dottie and Kit). This wasn’t my only foray into “scriptwriting” (aka adaptions) and production.2. In high school, a friend and I worked on staging a version of our favorite movie, Labyrinth, which was halted, as you may guess, by the fact that it was copyrighted and we couldn’t get permission to publicly perform it. But still, both were fun experiences, and it taught me a whole lot about the coordination involved in staging plays!#LizsWritingJourney #ChildhoodDream #PlayProduction #Theater #ChildhoodMovies #90sKids #PlayAdaptions
