A Day in the Life of a Work-at-Home Mom

June 19, 2019 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

work-from-home mom

I’ve been a full-time work-at-home mom since I had my son in January 2017. Since then I’m often asked, “how do you do it all?!” I don’t really understand the question, honestly. I’m no different than any other mom trying to juggle multiple hats. Even so, I thought I’d share a sneak peek into my work-at-home mom (WAHM) routine and life. Because routine? I thrive on it! When we … [Read more...]

How to Change Your Child’s Mindset in Just a Few Minutes a Day

affirmations for kids

This article first appeared on Self-Sufficient Kids in December 2018. Affirmations for kids are a powerful way to help children develop a mindset of positivity and success. Here’s how to get started: My daughter and I were sitting on the floor putting a puzzle together. We’d done this puzzle of mermaids swimming with fish countless times before, but the detailed section could get … [Read more...]

5 Quiet Time Activities for Preschoolers

May 14, 2019 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

Quiet-time activities

As I write this, both my kids are upstairs in their rooms for quiet time. They're playing quietly. They know this is the time I use to write and get some work done while they have fun with some activities I personally put together for them. Are they always in their room? Heck no, especially the two year old. Even so, they often look forward to the “down time” of the day, and my oldest - … [Read more...]

Teaching Our Kids About Body Autonomy

April 30, 2019 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

My young children are still learning how to use their words to express how they feel. Often times they’ll simply react with a hit or a push when they get angry, rather than explaining to the other why they're upset. When that happens, I have a phrase I often repeat: “If we don’t talk about it, nothing will change.” I’ve been thinking about that statement lately as National Sexual Assault … [Read more...]

5 Ways to Boost Your Self Confidence

March 20, 2019 by Liz SanFilippo Hall

Self confidence

I’ve always been an introvert, more comfortable with my books and behind a computer than I am making small talk. Growing up, I remember walking to middle school with one of the more popular girls. She chatted a mile a minute, and I’d try to come up with something to say, practice it in my head… but by the time I had what I wanted to say just right, the moment would, of course, be gone. Affiliate … [Read more...]

When I was a young mom, my dreams of writing felt When I was a young mom, my dreams of writing felt so out of reach. I was being pulled in a million different directions, and I never thought I’d make the progress I needed to. But then I realized that I just needed to reassess my process (and give myself some grace). Gone were the days of immersing myself in my imagination for hours on end… but 5-10 minute writing sessions? That I could do. This guided journal was born out of that process. Grab this 28-day guided journal through the link in my bio 🥰#MomLife #WritingProcess #WritingDreams #GuidedJournal

I actually started in on this book last fall, so I’m about halfway into my “draft zero” already… 40,000ish words that includes a handful of chapters and a whole lot of outlining and world building. I’m having fun figuring out how this story pans out, and that’s basically all I can say without spoiling anything 😜#AmEditing #AmWriting #MomLife #DraftZero

Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy is entertaining and insightful, and his approach to creativity feels like my own (did I really just write that?! I’m not, I swear, comparing myself to his incredible songwriting abilities). But his words struck a chord with me (pun intended): “Take the time to play with your words. Allow yourself the joy of getting to know them without being precious about directing everything they are trying to say.”But he goes beyond inspiration and encouragement too, and offers some super fun writing exercises… l you’ll just have to read to find them out. 🥳Now please excuse me while I go check out his other book. #AmWriting #BookRec #Creativity #Wilco
