About Oops & Daisies
As I write this from the couch in my living room, there is a blanket fort in the corner, stacks of video games and books on pretty much every ‘open’ table, and Magna-tile creations spread across the floor. A part of me thinks I should go and clean everything up — including this morning’s breakfast dishes — but I know if I do, I won’t have time to write before my kiddos come home from school.
Juggling everything life throws at us, figuring out our priorities and schedules, AND carving time out for ourselves? It feels darn near impossible.

I started this blog in 2015, because I wanted to talk about juggling work, life, and, somehow, finding time for the spark of joy that comes from creating. Since becoming a mom in 2014, I’ve heard, seen, and experienced just how hard we — moms, especially — can be on ourselves.
- We strive for perfection, because that’s what it seems the world wants of us.
- We have all these bold ideas but don’t know where to start, or feel we’re just not good enough.
- We tell ourselves it’s “too late,” and then we stop before we’ve even given ourselves another chance.
- We deal with anxiety and stress, because we’re constantly pushing ourselves to do more, be more, to say “yes” to everything – while saying “no” to our own dreams.
But just like we encourage our kids to follow their passions and dreams, us moms deserve to follow our own as well… and it all starts with giving ourselves permission to…
- take up a hobby we forgot about since becoming parents,
- go after our own goals and dreams,
- connect with others who have similar aspirations, and
- just, slow down, ignore the laundry pile (at least for now), pause, and enjoy this moment in time.
I’ve been accepting that life is messy, chaotic, and far from perfect. But that doesn’t mean I can’t pursue my creative writing.
On Oops & Daisies, I don’t crop out the mess. I live life zoomed out and recognize that it isn’t always easy to pursue our creative dreams… but it is worth it. Through my blog posts, tools, and resources, I aim to share my time-tested writing practices and rituals that have worked for me as a busy working mom and, in turn, make it easier for you to follow your own creative dreams and goals.
You matter. Your story matters, too.
Have a story of your own to share? I’d love to hear from you.

About Liz SanFilippo Hall
I’m a wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, but I’m also Liz SanFilippo Hall. I spend my days writing and editing for freelance clients, pursuing my creative writing goals, building a community for moms who love to write, and chasing around my two kids in the western suburbs of Chicago.
Since 2005, I have held an odd assortment of jobs, but my passion has always been for the written word and sharing the stories of people and places. As a result, over the course of my professional content development career, my work has been featured on a wide variety of publications and sites, including CBSLocal.com, SelfSufficientKids.com, KidsActivitiesBlog.com, and TheInternationalKitchen.com, to name a few.
After becoming a parent, the way I approached work and life changed drastically. Since 2017, and the birth of my second child, I mostly worked from home on a part-time basis. In the process of juggling work and life, I forgot for awhile what it’s like to have hobbies, but I’ve been re-finding them in recent years, and they include:
- Reading (I always have at least three books on my ‘currently reading’ shelf on Goodreads);
- Creative writing — one day this will be more than a ‘hobby’;
- Drawing and coloring — and not just with my kids’ crayons; and,
- Enjoying the outdoors, from the forest in our backyard to the sandy shores of Lake Michigan, which I consider my second home.
